One of the things we all have in common is the need and desire for love. Yet while we all want it, it is often the very thing that we fear. Because with matters of the heart – control is only an illusion.

And in a life where we have crafted methodical survival mechanisms to keep us safe, with love, those strategies build walls instead of bridges – blocking us from our greatest human desire.

When you open your heart, you will find yourself in your most vulnerable state. To risk such vulnerability takes courage, and with that courage births the potential to unearth that very force that makes life beautiful – love.

Love – unconditional, inconvenient, inspiring, powerful love. Love –that feeling of content when you wake up in the morning, that feeling of calm even in the most turbulent of storms. Love – passionate, raw, carnal, can’t live without you love.

And when will you be ready for something so powerful? The answer is, you never really will be. The universe decides when to give you an opportunity at love, and it is then where you decide if you’re willing to take a risk.

A risk to remove all that armor, unlearn those defense strategies and open your heart up… with all of you.

Don’t doubt that you may get bruised along the way. You’ll cry. You’ll hurt. You’ll mourn. But remember those are bruises – not scars – and only prepare you for the person you are meant to become. Love is what drives us. Love is what shapes us.

Don’t dull that possibility because of fear. Don’t settle for less. And if life presents you an opportunity for love – embrace it. Jump in with two feet. Give it everything that you’ve got. And when you find love, instead of being afraid to lose it, relish in every single second of it. Whether that moment is fleeting or a lifetime, it is what makes life worth living.

My fellow dreamers, remember that you will meet many people in your lifetime that you can create love with. But it’s a matter of finding someone who is willing to take that risk with you.

Here’s to love…

  1. Amy,

I am glad I kept your website in my favorites. I ended intense relationship with my bf today. I read this article today and I am glad that I made a firm decision. I would like to say thank you for your inputs and sometimes I dont read all of it but this one came out very helpful and I already see a light ahead of me.. Love sucks but my life goes on I have to live.

  2. But what if the “universe” as you put it, never seems to give you a chance at love? What if you don’t mind getting hurt or bruised but all that’s happening is that your sitting alone in a room untouched (and not for lack of trying either).

  3. Absolutely beautifully said, your words are a breath of fresh air. If only everyone maintained the same mentality in life and love. Very inspirational!

  4. Hi Amy,

I can really relate to your story, as I am currently trying to deal with a really hard breakup after being four years with someone. They showed signs of happiness and we had many future plans including a holiday to the states pre booked and ready to go. Unfortunately my partner ended the relationship blaming it on us.. After trying so hard to figure out what was wrong as it was so unexpected, I found out there was a third person involved who even has a young baby. I was devastated at how everyone shut me out, and how even in the raw stages of the breakup photos where being posted of them both all over each other. Nevertheless, your blog posts are really helping me deal with this.. And I enjoy all the comments and positivity! X

  5. What an amazing de-construction of love and our behaviour towards it. You are a truly eye-opening writer! You have made me see my past relationships in a very different way and you’ve made look towards adventuring into new ones. Thanks Amy xxx
